Columbus Short is counting his lucky stars because the actor just escaped jail time.

HipHollywood can confirm that the former Scandal star pleaded no contest on Thursday afternoon to assaulting a man in front of Gabe’s Bar and Grill in Los Angeles in March 2014.

According to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, the 33-year-old pleaded to an amended felony count of assault likely to cause great bodily injury.

The actor was immediately sentenced by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Leslie Brown to three years formal probation, 60 days of community labor and ordered to complete 26 anger management classes.

Short, who was given credit for serving 12 days in county jail, was also ordered to pay restitution. The amount will be determined during a court hearing next month.

Columbus has had a string of legal woes over the past two years, including his most recent arrest because of an issue with his bail bondsman. Click to see a timeline of Short’s legal drama.
