While Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift hugged it out on stage Sunday night’s MTV VMAs, the female rapper and the show’s host Miley Cyrus fired shots at each other … and it was incredibly entertaining.
Following Minaj’s acceptance speech for Best Rap Video for “Anaconda”, the rapper tossed back to Cyrus by calling her out for a recent interview the singer did with The New York Times regarding Minaj’s VMAs Twitter rant last month. “Back to this b*tch that had a lot to say about me the other day in the press; Miley, what’s good?”
Cyrus fired back, “Hey, we’re all in this industry, we all do interviews and we all know how they manipulate sh*t. Nicki, congratulations.”
In case you missed it, Miley recently shared her reaction to Minaj’s Twitter tirade about the nominees for Video of the Year. The female rapper explained on the social media website that “If I was a different ‘kind’ of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well.” She also added, “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year.”
Taylor Swift took offense to Minaj’s comments which lead to a Twitter disagreement. But according to Cyrus, Nicki’s comments were not so kind.
“I didn’t follow it. You know what I always say? Not that this is jealousy, but jealousy does the opposite of what you want it to—that’s a yoga mantra. People forget that the choices that they make and how they treat people in life affect you in a really big way,” Cyrus told NY Times. “If you do things with an open heart and you come at things with love, you would be heard and I would respect your statement. But I don’t respect your statement because of the anger that came with it,” she says.
“And it’s not anger like, ‘Guys, I’m frustrated about some things that are a bigger issue.’ You made it about you. Not to sound like a bitch, but that’s like, ‘Eh, I didn’t get my VMA’…If you want to make it about race, there’s a way you could do that. But don’t make it just about yourself. Say: ‘This is the reason why I think it’s important to be nominated. There’s girls everywhere with this body type.’”
That’s when she added: “What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind. It’s not very polite.”
We can’t wait to see where this new feud goes … if anywhere.
