HipHollywood can confirm that Percy Sledge, most known for his hit, “When A Man Loves A Woman” passed away on Tuesday at the age of 73.
East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner, Dr. William Clark tells us Sledge died just after midnight inside his Baton Rouge, Louisiana home of natural causes. We are told that Percy had been in hospice care after a long battle with liver cancer.
The singer quickly became a household name in 1966 after he released “When A Man Loves A Woman,” his first track with Atlantic Records. Coincidentally, April 16 will mark the 49th anniversary of the release of the chart topper.
Sledge is also known for hits “Take Time to Know Her,” “Warm and Tender Love” and “It Tears Me Up.”
