Pharrell To Curate The Music For NBA 2K15

Video game producer, 2K Sports announced Tuesday that Pharrell will be curating the soundtrack for their upcoming NBA 2K15 game.

Skateboard P says that his plan for the 2K15 game is to take a totally new approach compared to curators of years past who have included Jay Z in 2K13 and LeBron James in 2K14. The 41-year-old Grammy Award winning producer says that one of the biggest challenges for this project is his lack of involvement in Basketball when compared to past curators:

“They know so much more about this sport than I do, you know?” Pharrell said referring to Jay Z and Lebron at a press conference attended by Complex. “I mean, I’m not screaming like, touchdown. But like, you know, after free throw, lay up, couple dunks, I don’t know what a crossover is. I mean, I know what a crossover is. I might not know how to do it.”

Pharrell’s plan is to focus on an audience that he knows more about — women.

“I’m like man, how do I kill it? And then I just thought, You know what? There are girls that play the game and there’s a lot of girls that are around it because their boyfriends play it or their friends play it. So I thought it’d be such an interesting twist to have the girls weigh in on the song list, because they’re the ones that listen to it, they listen to it just as much. So I was just trying to pick like an alternative approach, you know, because how do you follow up like LeBron and Jay? You gotta take a different route.”

While there isn’t an official count out on how many songs P has curated for the game, 2K Sports is very confident that even though Pharrell may not have the sports background of curators in years past, he is exactly what the gamers, players, and fans want:

“Pharrell’s passion and reputation as a visionary producer and expertise from working with the NBA will be evident in the largest and most eclectic NBA 2K soundtrack ever,” Alfie Brody, the Vice President of Marketing for 2K was quoted saying in a press release.
