Wu-Tang Clan affiliate Shyheim Franklin is behind bars after surrendering to police for his alleged involvement in a fatal hit-and-run on New Year’s Day. Shyheim turned himself in to authorities on Wednesday.
29-year-old Felipe Avila was killed in a car crash traveling to work at a Staten Island bakery. Franklin, 36, is accused of running a stop sign and slamming into Avila’s car. The rapper is also being accused of crashing into a parked vehicle then abandoning his ride at the scene.
The rapper is now facing a felony charge of leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
A day before surrendering, Franklin posted a video on YouTube asking fans for help. “I’m reaching out for your support. I’m in a lot of trouble with right now and I need help with my legal defense so I can have a fair shot in court,” the rapper says. “If anybody would like to donate, help out, you can do so by sending a check or money order payable to my attorney.”
