Will Smith finally broke his silence via Facebook on Sunday night about the death of his close friend and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air co-star, James Avery.
“Some of my greatest lessons in Acting, Living and being a respectable human being came through James Avery,” the actor wrote. “Every young man needs an Uncle Phil. Rest in Peace.”
Smith, who played the late actor’s nephew on the 90’s sitcom, included a photo of the former cast, writing: “This photo was the last time we were together.”
Avery died on New Year’s Eve of complications following open-heart surgery. According to the actor’s manager, the 68-year-old underwent surgery on November 11 and died (Dec. 31) at a hospital in Glendale, Ca.
