Nearly two weeks following the release of her surprise self-titled album, Beyonce is finally opening up about some of her fears leading up to the big drop.
On Saturday night, Bey held a screening at the School of Visual Arts in New York for the music videos that were released with her visual album, Beyonce. During the night’s gathering, the diva revealed that she was terrified to release the 14-track, 17 video record.
“I was terrified. I was so scared. I already envisioned like the worst things that could happen,” Bey shared with her guests. “I was really nervous because this was a huge risk.”
She continued, “I’m very private and I’m very respectful, and I think it just took me no longer being someone’s child … Once I became a mother, I felt like I could tear those fourth walls and I just felt like it was time,” the 32-year-old said. “I completely feel liberated.”
Six days after the album’s release, Beyonce sold over 1 million copies, breaking iTunes records and topping iTunes charts across the world. The star went on to share with her fans that she was inspired by Madonna.
“I felt like I wanted follow in the footsteps of Madonna and be a powerhouse and have my own empire,” she said. “And show other women when you get to this point in your career, you don’t have to go sign with someone else and share your money and your success, you can do it yourself.”
“Honestly I was at a point where I felt like, you know, everything feels the same … That’s how I felt and if I could not challenge that, then maybe it’s time for me to do something else or develop more artists, which is something I want to do,” Jay Z’s wife explained. “I just hope that I continue to move forward and challenge myself, and I think now that I’ve become a mother, I just want my legacy to inspire people.”
The album, which is still one of the most trending topics on Twitter, was a huge surprise for fans. People across the world are still talking about the success Bey’s album had without any promotion.
“I’ve never done anything so brave in my life,” the mom shared. “The amount of personal growth from this project is unlike anything I’ve ever done. I took all of my insecurities, all of my doubts, all of my fears, and everything I’ve learned, I applied it into this project.”
Beyonce stunned in a black Tom Ford dress for the event, pairing the ensemble with black knee high boots. Flawless! The star took to Instagram to share the hot look with fans, simply writing, “I don’t pop molly …”
