12 Years A Slave is far from a romantic drama starring Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender, but that’s what you might think if you saw the Italian advertisement for the film. Movie posters in the country prominently feature Pitt and Fassbender with Chiwetel Ejiofor, the film’s Black star, in the lower corner.
BIM Distribuzine, the Italian distributor of the film, has recalled the posters ahead of Italy’s February release and issued an apology for playing Ejiofor:
“We apologize for creating and releasing unauthorized posters for ’12 Years A Slave’ in Italy featuring Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender in a manner inconsistent with approved advertising materials,” BIM Distribuzine said. “All inappropriate materials have now been withdrawn. We are very proud of the film and regret any distraction this incident may have caused.”
“12 Years A Slave,” which hit theaters in the United States in November, will be released in Italy February 20.
