Kanye West used Sunday night’s MTV VMA’s to remind folks that he’s more than a ‘Valley girl’ that’s head over heels for Kim Kardashian. The Chicago rapper took the stage at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York to perform “Blood on the Leaves” off his most recent album, Yeezus.
Kanye was originally scheduled to perform “Black Skinhead” during the show, so the song swap was a bit of a surprise for some watchers. Mr. West did publish a link on Twitter to a tree that was “used for lynching” moments before going on stage, which may have been a clue he was going in a different direction with his performance.
You can watch Yeezy do his thing in the video below.
Kanye made headlines on Friday when he appeared on his future mother-in-law’s talk show, where he spoke passionately about his adoration for his baby’s mother. It was nice to see the rapper return to his musical roots on Sunday night, leaving the Tom Cruise jumping on Oprah’s couch stuff at the door.
