It’s a good day for Rihanna … the pop diva just won her legal battle with British retailer Topshop.
On Wednesday morning, the U.K High Court ruled in favor of Rihanna in a lawsuit filed by the Barbadian beauty, claiming that Topshop used a photo of her on a T-shirt without her permission. The company named the clothing item the “Rihanna Tank.”
Rihanna’s camp argued that customers bought the shirt because they were lead to believe that the the singer was endorsing it, and that it was damaging to Ri’s reputation.
According Judge Justice Birss, Topshop’s sale of the Rihanna T-shirt without her approval was an “act of passing off.” But, the judge also stated that there is “no such thing as a general right by a famous person to control the reproduction of their image.”
Topshop was reportedly “surprised and disappointed” by the ruling, and disputed the judges decision.
Damages have not been determined.
