Move over, Kanye! Jay-Z dropped a bomb on the world Sunday night when he announced plans to release a new album, just two weeks after Kanye’s Yeezus project goes on sale. Magna Carta Holy Grail hits store shelves on July 4th.
Hov made the surprise announcement during a commercial that aired during Sunday night’s NBA Finals. The rapper also posted a preview video on his Life + Times website.
“It’s this duality of how do you navigate your way through this whole this whole thing… through success, through failures, through all of this, and remain yourself,” Jay says in the video. Keep an eye out for some famous faces including Rick Rubin and Pharrell Williams.
And get this, Jay’s album is already platinum. Samsung, who Jay just signed a $20 million deal with, purchased one million copies of Magna Carta Holy Grail and will distribute them days before the album’s July 4 release to users of the Samsung Galaxy S III, Galaxy S 4, and Galaxy Note II.
