Soul singer India Arie is firing back against allegations that she’s bleached her skin. The controversy erupted after Arie’s skin appeared brighter on the cover of her latest single, “Cocoa Butter.”
Arie isn’t the first artist to be accused of intentionally lightening their skin: Tempestt Bledsoe, Iman, Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and the late Michael Jackson also dealt with similar rumors. Thankfully Arie, the songstress behind hits like “Brown Skin”, publicly addressed the nonsense online.
“Personally speaking! I’m happy to say I have NOT BLEACHED my skin LOL! ROTF at the thought,” she writes. “I wouldn’t endanger my health that way,” she continues, adding, “I’m so in love with myself I have no DESIRE to BLEACH myself.”
The Grammy Award-winner also explained what may have caused her skin to appear lighter in the artwork. “The GLOW you see IS (magnificent) lighting. THE LIGHT you see, well thats all ME!!”
Glad she cleared that up. Check out the artwork below.
