Lil Wayne has finally opened up about the reason behind all his recent seizure scares – and it’s not due to any drug use.
In a phone interview with DJ Fellie Fel at Power 106 on Thursday, Kanye West’s favorite rapper dropped the ‘bad news’: he has epilepsy, and is prone to seizures.
This revelation is a far cry from the syrup-fuel seizure rumors from the past, or the near-death rumors initiated by TMZ. Weezy addressed those erroneous rumors saying:
“That’s what they do. I can’t be upset at that. I get upset at my kids when they do things that I tell them not to do. I can’t be upset at TMZ for doing what they do. They gon’ probably come out tomorrow and say something else about somebody else that ain’t true. That’s what they do. The truth isn’t good enough for them, so they gotta twist everything up.”
Weezy did acknowledge the seriousness of his condition however. And he also admitted that his week-long stay at a Los Angeles hospital earlier this month probably did save his life.
“I’m an epileptic. I’m prone to seizures. This isn’t my first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh seizure. I’ve had a bunch of seizures, ya’ll just never hear about them. But this time it got real bad ’cause I had three of them in a row and on the third one, my heart rate went down to like 30 percent. Basically, I could’ve died, so that is why it was so serious.”
Anyone who’s familiar with epilepsy knows that it’s a chronic neurological disorder that is characterized by reoccurring seizures. Many times those seizures can come with out any provocation. In Wayne’s case, he revealed that what brings them on is “stress, no rest, [and] overworking [him]self.” He added:
“That’s typical me though.”
Weezy went on to reveal that his condition has long been known to those around him, and that now, “they already know what to do” when he has a seizure.
Still, as in the case of Wayne’s last episode, sometimes he can have a seizure at the wrong place and wrong time, which makes getting treatment difficult. Hopefully Weezy recognizes his body’s limitations, and will get the rest and relaxation his doctors have advised.
